We all know that Toyota has serious problems with their gas pedals, whereby the giant automaker called for a recall recently, to fix the problems associated with the pedal. Nevertheless, it seems that a California Highway Patrol officer has recently intercepted a runaway Toyota Prius whereby the car’s accelerator got stuck, while the car was traveling along the San Diego County freeway.
James Sikes who was driving the Prius, immediately called 911 when he noticed that the gas pedal was stuck and that the car was already speeding at 94mph. Generally, the driver mentioned that when he stepped on the accelerator, the car jumped and the gas pedal just stuck there, resulting in the runaway vehicle. Although James tried pushing on the brakes, the car wouldn’t stop and kept going.
The police patrol car who intercepted James Sikes’ vehicle told him to step on the brakes hard, and this got the vehicle slowing down to 50mph. After the car got slower, Sikes turned off the engine and the car glided to a full stop after that.
Generally, Toyota has recalled up to 8.5 million vehicles recently, and it’s rather unfortunate that James Sikes’ Prius was one of the faulty ones with problematic gas pedal.
